Practical priorities
- Stop the source if it can be done safely.
- Remove standing water through appropriate cleanup methods.
- Dry affected materials and cavities rather than only visible surfaces.
- Do not seal wet materials behind paint, trim, flooring, or new finishes.
- Monitor for musty odor, staining, deterioration, or visible growth.
When prevention becomes remediation
If mold is already visible or contamination is suspected beyond routine cleanup, the project has moved beyond simple prevention. At that point, determine whether assessment or professional remediation is the appropriate next step.
If you already see mold
Read the mold-after-water-damage guide or call for local remediation help.
