Why drywall mold needs context
Repeatedly cleaning or painting a damp drywall surface does not correct an active moisture source. TDLR consumer guidance notes that absorbent materials such as drywall can be difficult to clean once moldy.
Signs the issue may extend beyond the surface
- Soft or swollen drywall.
- Staining that returns after repainting.
- Musty odor near a wall or ceiling.
- Known plumbing or roof leak.
- Visible growth at baseboards, seams, or penetrations.
